SUMMARY:Passover: Yizkor Memorial Prayers
DESCRIPTION:IN-PERSON & ZOOM: \nPassover Yizkor Memorial Prayers at The Boston Synagogue\nPassover Yizkor Memorial Prayers will be led by Tim Motz ; Join us for holiday  Yizkor Memorial services with Minchah / Maariv Holiday Passover Services\nthe evening of Wednesday April 8\, 2026.  Typically Yizkor is recited during morning services however due to the needs of our Boston\, downtown\, Jewish community The Boston Synagogue has pivoted to an evening option to include as many in our community to partake of this meaningful Jewish ritual. \nWhat is Yizkor \nYizkor\, in Hebrew\, means “Remember.” It is not only the first word of the prayer\, it also represents its overall theme. In this prayer\, we implore G‑d to remember the souls of our relatives and friends that have passed on. When we recite Yizkor\, we renew and strengthen the connection between us and our loved one\, bringing merit to the departed souls\, elevating them in their celestial homes. The main component of Yizkor is our private pledge to give charity following the holiday in honor of the deceased. By giving charity\, we are performing a positive physical deed in this world\, something that the departed can no longer do. The soul gains additional merit if the memory of its good deeds spurs loved ones to improve their ways. \nYizkor\, a special memorial prayer for the departed\, is recited in the synagogue four times a year\, following the Torah reading on the last day of Passover\, on the second day of Shavuot\, on Shemini Atzeret and on Yom Kippur. \nWe look forward to seeing you. See more on our Holiday page. \nCheck emails for Zoom link or email the office@bostonsynagogue.org \nIn the Spirit of Passover $18.00 donation appreciated \nWish to receive updates and current activities taking place at The Boston Synagogue join our email list and choose the topics of interest. \n\n \n\n\n\nVariable Donation\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n

SUMMARY:Erev Shavuot - Food & Evening Learning
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, June 11th starting at 6:30 PM – led by Rabbi Navah! \nSession 1: Praying from the Ruins \nHow and why do we continue to pray when surrounded by glaring evidence that God is not listening\, or has shouted a resounding “No”? Does it matter where\, or how\, or when one prays? Does it matter if God is hearing us? We will explore these and other questions as we study together a famous passage from the Babylonian Talmud\, in which a rabbi enters ruins in the destroyed Jerusalem to pray. In the ruins\, he has a transformative interaction with… Elijah! \nBREAK for Maariv and pizza\, pasta\, ice cream and cheesecake! \nSession 2: Learning to Follow\, Participate in (and Lead!) The Torah Service \nErev Shavuot is the time when we prepare ourselves to receive God’s Torah. Tonight\, post-cheese cake\, our night will continue with study related to the Torah service (our ritualized Torah study). We’ll begin with an overview of the structure and key elements of the Torah service\, followed by learning in pairs or small groups (‘hevruta’ learning). Among the learning options will be: the Torah blessings\, singing the introductory passages\, the service choreography (‘why is everyone standing and pointing their pinkies?!’)\, a crash refresher in Hebrew reading for those who just need a tune-up\, and for newbies\, beginning to learn your alef-bet.

SUMMARY:Erev Shavuot - Food & Evening Learning with Rabbi Navah
DESCRIPTION:Join us for Tikkun Leil Shavuot — A interactive nighttime study session to prepare ourselves for the moment of revelation with pizza\, beer\, ice cream\, cheese cake + lactose-free options! \nSESSION 1: THE RITUAL THAT SURVIVED…EVERYTHING: THE OFFERING OF FIRST FRUITS IN DEUTERONOMY \nCelebrate the revelation at Sinai & our receiving the Torah. Shavuot is the concluding festival of the harvest in Israel! We will study the biblical post-harvest declaration ritual recited by farmers when bringing their ‘first fruit’ offerings. \nGet a glimpse into the ways in which our ancestors connected to God\, the land of Israel\, & how they blended the spiritual with the practical. Perhaps\, we might learn from them how to do the same during these complex times. \nBREAK FOR DESSERT! \nSESSION 2: JERUSALEM OF GOLD –CELEBRATING ISRAEL THROUGH SONG! \nWe will conclude our Tikkun by learning & singing this iconic Israeli folk song. Followed by more singing\, for those who’d like to linger… \nNOTE: Email the office to register
