Klezmer Jam with Featured Artist: Nat Seelen

November 12 @ 4:00 pm - 6:30 pm

klezmer

Hosted by Rebecca Mac & Mattias Kaufmann, members of the Boston based Klezmer ensemble; Mamaliga.

Featured Artist: Nat Seelen, clarinet

Nat began his musical training in the preparatory department of New England Conservatory, where he studied jazz, music theory, and early music. He continued at Brown University, where he led the university orchestra and the klezmer band while maintaining a busy schedule of chamber music, jazz combos, funk bands, and pit orchestras. Nat graduated from Brown with a Bachelor’s in Music Theory, History, and Composition and an honors thesis in ethnomusicology focused on klezmer music.

After Brown, Nat moved to Cambridge, MA, where he started the internationally-recognized Ezekiel’s Wheels Klezmer Band and developed an active freelance career on clarinet, saxophone, and percussion. Nat is also the Artist director of the Boston Festival of New Jewish Music.

4:00 PM: Workshop

We’ll learn a tune together, slowly by ear. If you don’t know a lot of tunes, or you’re looking to add to your repertoire, this is a great opportunity for the Klez-pros and amateurs alike to learn something new!

5:30 PM: Jam

Bring a tune to lead, play along, do a dance, or just come to listen! More dancing will be led by Adah. All are welcome!

Followed by Reception with drinks & snacks!
